HAJJAR'S HISTORY

From 1956 until 1983, the Hajjars owned and operated a roller-skating rink, which always had a snack area. Tillie and the entire family worked the business. In the 1960s, the family also owned and operated a restaurant in Boston, in which Danny and Phillip Hajjar played an active role.

In 1984 the establishment was converted to a fitness club. The snack area started serving a breakfast and lunch menu with a beer and wine license. At this time, Tillie introduced many Lebanese dishes and appetizers. The breakfast and lunch business went so well, and with more and more fitness centers coming into the area, the family decided to convert the fitness club to a restaurant.

Originally, the restaurant was called Hajjar Lebanese Cuisine but later changed to Hajjar's Bar & Grille, offering a few Lebanese dishes.

Tillie Hajjar — (Philip, Daniel, Tommy, David and Fred's mother). She is 87 years young. If Tillie isn't in the kitchen cooking or cleaning the restaurant, she is probably outside cleaning the parking lot or dancing with the customers.

Philip Hajjar — In the 1960s he worked for his father's restaurant in Boston, where he learned about the business. In 1967 he also worked for Prudential Insurance in the computer field. In 1987 Prudential moved their home office to New Jersey and he decided he did not want to relocate so he took a job with Liberty Mutual.

Zako Hajjar — (Philip's wife). She is currently the restaurant's function manager and operates a sewing business from her home. Previously, she ran a day-care center for many years.

Juliette Egan (Hajjar) — (Philip and Zako's daughter). She is currently the bar manager. She is married and has two beautiful children, Samantha and Julianna.

Lorraine Hajjar — (Philip and Zako's daughter). She is currently the manager of the waitresses. She is also a full-time English teacher in Weymouth, while attending college for her master's degree.

Tony Hajjar — (Philip and Zako's son). He currently works part-time as a cook and is a full-time student at Bridgewater State College. He also teaches karate and does construction on the side.

Daniel Hajjar — (Tillie's son). He is the general manager of the restaurant. Daniel worked at his father's restaurant in the '60s. In 1978 he started Hajjar Trucking & Repair, closing the trucking business in 1995 in order to put all his efforts into Hajjar's Bar & Grille.

David Hajjar — (Tillie's son). He is the chef and kitchen manager at the restaurant. David was a cook in the Army from 1970 to 1972. He then went to culinary school at Bunker Hill Community College. In the '80s he was a chef at the Toll House. He then worked for seven years as a caterer for Rene's Catering.

Carolyn Hajjar — (David's wife). She works on Friday nights as a bartender. They have a son, Little David.

Fred Hajjar — (Tillie's son). He worked for Hajjar Trucking & Repair as a manager. In 1984 he was the general manager of the family's fitness center until its conversion to the restaurant.

Tommy Hajjar — (Tillie's son). Tommy acted as the public relations manager. He had a knack for making everyone laugh. He died on January 5, 1998, but he is remembered always and forever. His face has become the restaurant's logo.
